On the way to the promised land

Deuteronomy 8:15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

Sometimes you are tested and shaped by rough times. Can you imagine the stress of having a sea at your back and Egyptian soldiers bearing down on you? Being thirsty and not having any water in the heat of the desert? Or experiencing snakes and scorpions? These are the tests to humble and test you before you enter your promised land.

1 Peter 4:12-19 NIV

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

It's a juvenile thing to believe that everything goes smoothly for God's people. This is how he tests us and how he humbles us.

We are antifragile. There are some that are damaged by trials because of how they think. There are some that are durable and hold up; leaving a trial the same but we are improved and antifragile improving with a difficulty or testing. If we stand on the word and throw doubt at our emotions that lie to us and accuse God of being unfaithful we grow stronger.

The world is watching and we draw attention to God when we behave in a way that is trustworthy. When we are in a tough spot we can say "I don't know what is going on. My emotions are lying to me but I know that you are in the middle of it and I will trust you".
